  • Useful Tips EEA Family Permit and Right to Work in the UK

Non EEA family members are allowed to work in the UK, however, employers often want to see some kind of document to prove this and the family permit is not included in the list of documents employers can accept as proof of having the right to work in the UK. This can cause issues with some employers.

One of our group members wrote to the Home Office seeking written confirmation of their right to work as a family member with an EEA family permit that they could show to an employer.

The Home Office wrote back confirming that they can work on a family permit, although they were also advised to apply for pre-settled status, however, in the meantime, the written confirmation from the Home Office should suffice to satisfy an employer while the application under the settlement scheme is in process.
