  • LAWYER RESPONSE State Pension - Moving abroad and Voluntary NI Contributions

    Hello,
Not sure if this topic is relevant for this forum? I have 8 years of NI contributions in the UK and 1 year when I didn't contribute enough. I can pay for the gaps in that year for about £800, however, during that year I was paying national insurance in Greece, so not sure there is a point to pay? So overall, I have 2 years of contributions in Greece (2011-13), 1 year when I didn't contribute enough in the UK (2012-13) and 8 full years in the UK (2013-2021) if I count this financial year too. I'm also planning to move to Mexico later this year. My questions are:
    - Can my 2 years in Greece and 8 in the UK be merged so that I have the 10 years minimum to get some state pension from the UK at some point?
    - If not, do you know if it's possible to pay state pension in the UK from Mexico so that I reach the 10 years?
    - Do you think it's worth paying voluntary contributions to fill my year with gaps 2012-13?

    Thank you

Yes, according to the EU co-ordination rules you can aggregate periods of national insurance contributions in different member states.

Do you think it's worth paying voluntary contributions to fill my year with gaps 2012-13?
I think it's up to you to decide if it's worth it.

Hi, ok thank you. So if I can aggregate periods and reach the 10 years minimum that way that's great.
